Harris Duels to INSSA win at Idaho 200
.JPG)
POST FALLS, IDAHO – August 4,
2007 – Wenatchee, Washington
driver Brent Harris took advantage of lapped traffic to pass
race leader Shelby Thompson with five laps to go to win the
INSSA Hooters Duel for the 200. Harris becomes the third
different winner for the opening night of the Idaho 200
weekend.
Late in the race Thompson
passed front-runners Dave and Dan Garber after a three wide
move to the front to take the lead with 20 laps remaining.
Harris, who battled in a six-car pack for the top spot in
early laps, followed as the group hit lapped cars with 10
laps to go. With Thompson held up by slower cars, Harris
dropped to the inside line out of turn two to take the lead.
A caution for spinning cars
with one lap to go set up a green-white-checkered finish.
Harris held off Thompson on the restart to pick up the win
and a guaranteed spot in the NAPA Auto Parts Idaho 200 on
Sunday. Thompson finished second, Garber brothers Dan and
Dave, third and fourth.
Andy Brown and Agni Howell
rounded out the top six and final transfers. Favored Idaho
200 entries Kevin Richards, Christian Roeder, Idaho’s Corey
Allard, and Canada’s Darrell Midgley struggled with damage
or mechanical problems after running in the top five spots
early in the race.
Two-time Idaho 200 champion
John Gamble finished seventh after spinning avoiding slower
cars on lap 27.
Dave Garber and John Jackson
won dashes. Midgley, Gamble and Montana’s Troy Schweigert
won heats. Last year’s Idaho 200 winner Kevin Richards set
fast time with a 13.153 second lap but did not finish the
race after a flat tire and other mechanical problems on lap
62. An unprecedented 24 cars started the race.
Brad Carpenter won the Late
Model 4’s 25-lap main event. Justin Robideux won the Early
Stock event.
Racing continues Saturday
with the LMCS Duel for the 200 where six drivers will
advance to Sunday race. Many drivers failing to transfer
from Friday’s event are expected to compete. Events start at
6pm. Then on Sunday the 2007 running of the NAPA Auto Parts
Idaho 200 starting at 2pm.
