Dave Garber Goes
Outside to Win
POST FALLS, IDAHO – April 29, 2007 – Dave Garber used his
patented outside racing line to score the win for the Inland
Northwest Super Stocks Series’ season opener Saturday night at
Stateline Speedway. Garber bested a 17-car field to pull off the
win.
Garber, notorious for his talent to dart to the outside racing
groove when it is not favorable, started deep in field with John
Mandere and Jeff Little on the front row. Stuck running fifth in
a five car train, trapped on the bottom of the track, Garber
pulled to his well-known outside line in chase of Mandere, the
leader, near the half way point of the 100-lap race.
Garber’s decision to make the move to the front set off a fury
of bumper tagging and fender rubbing behind him as other drivers
jockeyed for position. Contact between quick qualifier Kevin
Richards, Jack Morse, Andy Brown, and Jeff Fenton sent showers
of sparks and body pieces flying off of cars as Garber pulled
away.
Garber caught Mandere in a rush, passing him on the outside for
the lead by lap 60. The first of two cautions flew on lap 63 for
contact between Dan Garber and Steve Parrish in turn two and the
second on lap 86 when contact between cars sent heat winner Jack
Morse spinning around down the front stretch.
Fenton closed in on Garber near the end but Garber held on to
win the race. Fenton finished second, Brown third. Montana’s
Bodie Morton rallied to forth with Idaho’s Corey Allard cracking
the top five.
After running up front a majority or the race, Mandere finished
sixth, Morse second. The INSSA series returns to Stateline June
16th
Lewiston, Idaho’s Kevin McKeehan won the A dash, heat and the
35-lap lap main event for the Late Model 4’s. Chris Yokum
finished second, Jeff Smyth third. Spokane’s Travis Allen
recorded the win in the B dash and heats.
Ned Pennington, from Rathdrum, Idaho, won the season opening
race for the Hobby Stocks after surviving a wild 25-lap main
event over Ron Collison and Tyson Wilcox. Brian Husk set fast
time and won the dash race. Casey Akers and Bob Flagor, in an
ethanol fueled car, won heat races.
Racing continues next Saturday with the only appearance of the
season for the Washington Midget Racing Association. Last year’s
race winner Matt Stone of Snohomish, Washington is expected to
appear along side a full field of midget cars.
Hobby Cars, Street Stocks and Early Stocks are also on the
schedule making up for a rained out race in April. Events start
at 6pm. Adults are $10, kids under 10 are free.
The International Drift Championship has canceled the May 6
drifting event.
