May 16, 2006 (Spokane, WA) – AJB Racing and driver Tony Berry are in
the middle of a big week for the 22-year old. This past Saturday
night Berry qualified his Idaho Army National Guard Chevrolet fourth
in the second Inland Northwest Super Stock Association (INSSA) event
of the year. Sunday Berry participated in Commencement Ceremonies at
Gonzaga University in Spokane and this coming weekend Berry will get
the opportunity to make his first start in the Dick Voss Racing #45
with the Washington Midget Racing Association (WMRA).
Saturday May 13th Tony Berry and the Idaho Army National Guard, Race
Car Supply, Sign Service, Speed Sport Report, Joe’s Racing Products,
Don Wilbur Windermere Chevrolet ran a 13.70 second lap, good enough
for the fourth fastest time on the night. After starting from the
pole in his first A-Trophy Dash in a Late Model car, Berry captured
the win in front of a packed house. “Our Late Model team is new and
we are just starting to get the car figured out. Our new C2P shocks
really seem to be the difference, so I especially need to thank our
Shock Specialist Nick Behn at Race Car Supply. I hope that this is
the start of more good things to come so that we can put our
sponsors out front more this season,” commented Berry.
After suffering a part failure on the #53 Late Model car in the main
event, Berry brought the car home in the eighth position, one lap
down. “We had the left rear shock mount break on us randomly.
Unfortunately we couldn’t do much about it prior to the main event,
so we were forced to adjust the set up on the car to lift the left
side of the car up to pass the pre-race technical inspection. My
crew scrambled hard on the car and thankfully we even made the race,
albeit with a very loose racecar.”
On Sunday the 14th, Berry joined his fellow classmates at the
Gonzaga University commencement ceremony at the Spokane Arena. The
event was host to approximately 9,000 people and paid tribute to the
almost 1,000 students who completed their degrees at the University.
This Saturday, May 20th, the WMRA will be making their only visit of
the year to the ¼ mile oval at the Stateline Speedway in Post Falls,
Idaho. Berry will be making his debut in the Dick Voss Racing #45
Nissan powered midget entry. “I am thrilled at the opportunity that
Mr. Voss is giving me to drive his new car this weekend. The yellow
#45 car is famous in the North West for running upfront for many
years. I look forward to doing my part in continuing that
tradition.” Berry and his team have already captured a midget win on
dirt earlier this season.
